HBBC: The Foreigner

Welcome to The Half-Baked Bloggers Consortium‘s (HBBC) third post. Meet the members here.
This week’s topic is 3o2dit al 5awaga, chosen by Marwa  . Please take the time to view the members’ blogs just as you viewed mine in order to get different perspectives about the same topic.

The foreigner… that exotic being from beyond the sea.. charming; sometimes,  exploiter: many times . He knocks on the door flashing his civilised, broad minded,  and modern ideas in the face of us heathens. One must bow to him and welcome him to the main room and let them sit on the best spot, drink from the best china, and sleep in the master room’s.

That is us and them.. us the barbaric, the narrow-minded, the filthy and them the demi-gods, the vessel of knowledge and innovation. We the under-class, and them the learned ones.

We the terrorists and them the peacekeepers… us the lazy and them the amazing race.

We have seen them through those eyes and mentality of us vs them. Them always win

It’s so sad though, isn’t it. That we have this so well-rooted mentality of foreigners. Why do we give them better jobs and better treatment when our countrymen are probably even more qualified?!

  2. observationofalostsoul says:

Because we have a mental image, that the ajnabi is better, better educated, more civilised, it is a presitige to let them work at your workplace and be your superior.

Do you know that practicing architecture is almost 0 in Egypt unless for some famous foreigner companies.

No wonder I gave up my career.

  4. FAITH says:

Looking at how things are like at the company I’m working for, I think they whole “foreigners” fuss would vanish as long as the right people are put in the right spot.
