Looking For Your Face

Poetry by Jalaluddin Rumi

From the beginning of my life
I have been looking for your face
but today I have seen it
Today I have seen
the charm, the beauty,
the unfathomable grace
of the face
that I was looking for
Today I have found you
and those who laughed
and scorned me yesterday
are sorry that they were not looking
as I did
I am bewildered by the magnificence
of your beauty
and wish to see you
with a hundred eyes
My heart has burned with passion
and has searched forever
for this wondrous beauty
that I now behold
I am ashamed
to call this love human
and afraid of God
to call it divine
Your fragrant breath
like the morning breeze
has come to the stillness of the garden
You have breathed new life into me
I have become your sunshine
and also your shadow
My soul is screaming in ecstasy
Every fiber of my being
is in love with you
Your effulgence
has lit a fire in my heart
And you have made radiant
for me
the earth and sky
My arrow of love
has arrived at the target
I am in the house of mercy
and my heart
is a place of prayer

    That’s such a beautiful poem.
I loved this: “Today I have found you
    and those who laughed
    and scorned me yesterday
are sorry that they were not looking
    as I did”

Thanks Noor. I heard about this poem when I was watching a british comedy; the husband ‘wrote’ this poem to his wife on their first date. After 30 years she knew he did not write it and accused him that their marriage was build on a lie and he says dear, more than one lie šŸ˜€

  3. Noor says:

LOL, that’s so amusing. At least it was based on such a beautiful lie.

  4. observationofalostsoul says:

LOL yes do u think love is build on a lie?

  5. Noor says:

Well, surely she didn’t love him based on that one poem, like yeah it’s pretty brilliant and it might have made her seem him in a new but that wasn’t the reason she stayed with him for 30 years.
Now, love should be based on honesty. If it was based on a lie, then that’ll make a person question the whole relationship, wonder what else could have been a lie. Wouldn’t you say?

    *in a new light

The whole world could be a lie šŸ™‚ our mere existence could be one huge lie who knows šŸ˜›
